COIL & Virtual Exchange
Let’s face it: Creating a Collaborative Online International Learning course is not as easy as it sounds. You have to create content, design a curriculum, and find the right tools to use. If you have an idea for a course, but are struggling to figure out how to make it happen, then read on for my guide on how to conduct a collaborative online course!
Let’s face it: Creating a Collaborative Online International Learning course is not as easy as it sounds. You have to create content, design a curriculum, and find the right tools to use. It all starts with choosing a topic for your course
Just like any other project, it is important to have a plan. I always recommend that people create a list of things they could and want to teach. It doesn’t have to be about your subject area, either. For example, if you’re a triathlete, you could teach people how to swim, how to bike and how to run. It’s so important to articulate your learning objectives at the beginning of every learning experience so that you know exactly what it is you want to achieve and this will as well define the topic of your course.
Next, let’s create an outline.
When making an outline, knowing what to leave out is as important as knowing what to include in the final course outline. Remember to conduct a thorough research about your topic first. Only include topics that are relevant and will help your students achieve the learning objectives you have set out.
Make your outline come to live with engaging activities.
Now that we have a topic and outline, think about activities that can help you teach these in an engaging way. Think about how you can deliver your course effectively. Incorporate videos, reading materials, activities, and even audio content to keep your students engaged. Learning should not be boring! Incorporate activities for your students for more engagement. Some activities include collaborative research, small group discussions, group projects, etc. basically any activity that is fitting to the goal of your virtual course.
